Share the Vegan love

The Veganning 2022 is the vegan calendar for the New Year 2022 designed by Manmohan Malani, a vegan artist, baker, and animal rights artivist. Manmohan’s hand-drawn illustrations fill this calendar with vegan and animal-rights-themed artworks. Additionally, The Veganning 2022 contains interesting facts and lots of resources.

This vegan calendar for the New Year 2022 is for anyone, vegan or non-vegan, to get a glimpse into the beautiful aspects of a vegan lifestyle. It makes for a lovely and compassionate New Year gift, for friends, family, employees, colleagues, or the self!

After Malani turned vegan, he set on the path to making art as one of the mediums for spreading the message of animal rights. This vegan calendar for the New Year 2022 is one of the results of his artivism.

Here’s a trailer to the calendar:

"Being vegan doesn't mean we are 100% perfect, rather we're trying our best to cause no harm consciously. It's okay to go slow initially, make mistakes or feel helpless sometimes, that's where this calendar comes to your rescue.” Artivist, Manmohan Malani

‘The Veganning’ – Samples

One of the illustrations is themed on Not our mom, not our milk.

The babies yearn for their mothers

With a wish that they had the voice

Just to tell aloud one thing

Not your mom, not your milk!

Cows (or any mammal per se), like humans, need to give birth to produce milk i.e. they’re not milk machines. Cows don’t carry milk in their tummies all the time, only after delivering their calf do they begin generating milk, similar to human mothers. In order for them to generate the milk and do it quickly so the dairy industry can make maximum profits, the cow is artificially inseminated, given oxytocin injections, and what not!

The illustration on Friends not food acknowledges that all non-human sentient beings feel pain and pleasure just like us. Jeremy Bentham said, “The question is not, Can they reason? Nor, can they talk? But can they suffer?” The measure of who deserves protection is not intelligence, it is the capacity to feel pain.

Started by Last Chance for Animals, the Adopt, Don’t Shop movement tells us that in a world where there are so many precious beings who deserve love and care, it is immoral to add to the population by breeding animals for profit. According to a report by Humane Society International, animals destined to become “pets” are transported and kept in inhumane conditions. They are denied a veterinarian’s care if they become sick or injured. The females are kept in confinement and forced to breed multiple times, wrecking their health in the process.

Be it zoos, circuses, rides, or shows, what might seem cute or amusing to us is a terrifying reality for them. They are poked, prodded, tied, starved, drugged, and what not just so that we can watch them perform tricks or shows. Is our amusement worth their suffering? This message is beautifully represented with the illustration titled, The show must not go on!

Similarly, this calendar is filled with various other illustrations, resource pages, and a lot more!
